Karachi, Apr.29 (ANI): Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Asif has said he is upset and disappointed at the Court of Arbitration for Sports' (CAS) rejecting his latest appeal to overturn the seven-year ban imposed on him for allegations that prove him guilty of spot fixing.
The CAS has found no evidence that suggests that Asif was innocent and not a party to the spot-fixing conspiracy, the Nation reports.
Asif had requested the annulment of the International Cricket Council's decision on procedural grounds, but CAS has dismissed his appeal, following which Asif said that his hopes for making a comeback to international cricket anytime soon have been dashed.
Asif, however, insisted that his lawyer would continue the battle to clear his name and revive his cricket career.
Stating that the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman has commented in his favour about his return to domestic cricket, Asif refused to accept that the ban marked an end of his career. He said that now his first priority is to look for legal steps to challenge the ban.
Asif's lawyer Ravi Sukul said that he was disturbed by the verdict, as circumstantial evidence had not been taken into account. Sukul added that he will prepare an appeal which will be forwarded to the Swiss Federal Court. (ANI)
