Islamabad, Apr. 19 (ANI): A resolution calling for the trial of former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf for treason under Article 6 of the Constitution has been unanimously passed in the Senate.

Senator Raza Rabbani, while commenting on Musharraf's imprisonment in his farmhouse, said the former military dictator was a "self-proclaimed president" and should not be given preferential treatment, The Express Tribune.

Earlier on April 18, the Islamabad High Court issued arrest order for Musharraf, however, he fled the court premises without getting arrested.

Musharraf surrendered to the authorities on Friday and his farmhouse was declared a sub-jail. The court also granted two-day transit remand of the former president.

Musharraf returned to Pakistan last month after four years of self-imposed exile in London and Dubai with an aim to contest the May 11 elections for his All Pakistan Muslim League party. But a few days ago, he was disqualified by the Election Commission of Pakistan for contesting the coming elections. (ANI)
