Shymkent (Kazakhstan), April 18 (IANS) Former sub-junior National Champion Prayag Chauhan (60kg) Thursday continued his winning spree at the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships underway here.

The 16-year-old marched into the finals with another prolific victory. With this win the Delhi boxer is now assured of at least a silver medal from the tournament.

Chauhan, up against Ernis Uulu Ruslan of Kyrgyzstan, was once again in top form as he comprehensively beat his opponent in what turned out to be a unanimous decision by the judges.

Coach Vijay Sharma was extremely pleased with his performance and said: "Prayag is in great form and fought very well against the Kyrgyz boxer. He has shown good potential and this performance will do wonders for his confidence in the upcoming World Championships".

Chauhan will now stake claim to the yellow metal in the championship round against Ilyubayev Azat of Kazakhstan Sunday.

The Indian camp, however, suffered setbacks in the quarterfinals.

Mohammad Wasique (46kg) came up short against some power hitting of local lad Nursultan Bekbolat. In the 54-kg category, Thounaojam Bickychand's campaign at the Asian meet also came to an end at the hands of Kholdarov Ikboijan of Uzbekistan.
