Wisden blasts 'controversial' Pieterson as 'arrogant, self-pitying'

London, Thu, 11 Apr 2013 ANI

London, Apr 11 (ANI): The 'Bible of Cricket' Wisden has lambasted controversial English batsman Kevin Pieterson, saying that he has a 'self-pitying' attitude and had an 'arrogant' approach to cricket last year.

According to Wisden's editor Lawrence Booth, cricket had existed only as an extension to the whims of Pieterson, who had become arrogant after a new lucrative Indian Premier League deal, the Mirror reports.

Booth was writing in the new edition of the Wisden Cricketer's Almanac, which was published this week to mark the start of the County Championship.

Stating that Pieterson had attempted to bulldoze over the terms of his central contract, Booth wrote that the batsman was self-pitying, claiming that he had been never looked after.

Booth further said that these attitudes can filter down from the top, adding that it is hard to ignore a wider truth that a bloated schedule has asked the players to make unfair choices.

Meanwhile, Wisden has named Australian captain Michael Clarke as the 'cricketer of the year' for 2012, the report added. (ANI)
