The Hague, March 29 (IANS/EFE) The "Night Watch", considered one of the greatest works of Dutch artist Rembrandt van Rijn, is back on display at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam after it underwent security and environmental upgrades.

The work, completed in 1642 at the peak of the Dutch Golden Age, is one of the last paintings returned to the museum's main building, which reopens April 13 after a decade-long renovation project overseen by Spanish architects Antonio Ruiz and Antonio Ortiz.

Sensors to control the temperature and humidity in the gallery were installed, and the painting was placed in a new frame.

The painting, which is owned by the city of Amsterdam, has only left its home twice before.

The "Night Watch" was on display in a temporary exhibition hall while the museum underwent renovation over the past 10 years.
