Ranatunga willing to help revive international cricket in Pakistan

Lahore , Mon, 04 Mar 2013 ANI

Lahore, Mar. 4 (ANI): Former Sri Lankan captain Arjuna Ranatunga has said he is willing to help Pakistan in reviving international cricket in the country, which was stalled four years ago following a dreaded terrorist attack on Sri Lankan cricketers.

Ranatunga said he can understand what the players went through and what they think about playing in Pakistan, but is ready to play any role in any capacity to help in the revival of international cricket, reports The Nation.

On March 3, 2009, the Sri Lankan team bus was attacked by terrorists while they were on their way to the Gaddafi stadium for the third day of the Lahore Test. Since that day teams have shunned touring Pakistan while the ICC has also not held any of their events.

Ranatunga feels that Pakistan needs to prepare a comprehensive security plan and discuss it with the ICC and its member boards.

Meanwhile, Ehsan Mani, former president of the ICC, said without a proper investigation to reach a clear understanding of what happened in Lahore, international teams would not come back to Pakistan.

He said if Pakistan is to regain the confidence of foreign teams, a comprehensive inquiry should be done, and if it is already done, then it should be made public. (ANI)
