London, Feb. 22 (ANI): French politician Rachida Dati has hit back at her rival, who said that she is unfit to become the mayor of Paris, claiming the only reason he is opposed to her candidacy is because of her refusal to sleep with him.

The 47-year-old, a one-time protege of former President Nicolas Sarkozy, said that conservative MP Claude Goasguen harbours a grudge against her as she snubbed his sexual advances, the Daily Mail reported.

According to a report in the satirical magazine Le Canard Enchaine, Goasguen - supporter of rival mayoral candidate Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet, rounded on Dati at a lunch last week.

He is believed to have told her that she will not run for the primaries as she is not up to being a mayor of Paris.

Then in an apparent attack on her North African heritage he added, "You're not going to lay down the law here; you're not in Seine -Saint Denis. Don't bring your 93 customs here."

Dati, who grew up on a council estate near Lyon, is reported to have hit back at Goasguen saying, Who did he think he was to speak to her in that tone, adding, if he thinks it was permitted just because she refused to sleep with him.

According to Le Canard, Dati considered filing a legal complaint for "racial insults." Goasguen later offered his "apologies to Seine-Saint-Denis." (ANI)
