Thai airline in hot water over steamy 'bikini-clad' models promotion

Sydney, Feb 13 (ANI): A Thai airline company has caused controversy with the government after it hired scantily-clad models as part of a promotion on the company's Facebook page.

The low-cost Nok Air had hired models from the men's magazine Maxim dressed in yellow bikinis, which is the official colour of the airlines, ABC News reports.

The airline would gift the 2013 calendar featuring the models to anyone participating in the campaign, the report added.

According to a statement from the Thai Ministry of Culture, the campaign of the airlines focuses on the bad reputation of Thailand as a hotspot for prostitution, and gave rise to problems for organisations trying to change that image.

However, the ministry admitted their inability to take action against the airlines because the company has not broken any law by producing the calendar.

Defending their campaign, Nok Air CEO Patee Sarasin said that the women used in the photos were not actual Nok Air staff.

Sarasin added that so far, the campaign has received positive feedback which has increased the number of passengers.

Stating that the airlines had not crossed any moral boundary, Sarasin said that the airline business is globally considered as 'sexy' which was the motive behind their campaign.

The models are also dressed as flight attendants posing in front of the planes. (ANI)
