$35.5m Mediterranean villa that inspired F. Scott Fitzgerald up for grabs

New York , Tue, 12 Feb 2013 ANI

New York, Feb. 12 (ANI): The Mediterranean Villa that inspired US author F. Scott Fitzgerald's while he was gathering material for his last novel, 'Tender is the Night,' has now been put up for sale.

Villa Picolette, a seven-bedroom home, is luxurious even by Fitzgerald's Jazz Age standards.

Recently restored by its European owner to its original Art Deco grandeur, the mansion overlooking the Mediterranean Sea has hand-painted frescoes, gardens that extend down to a private beach and a classic French kitchen with black metal appliances. Several stunning terraces overlook the bay, the New York Daily News reported.

The view from the villa's tower and the terraces is the same one which appears on the cover of some editions of Fitzgerald's last novel.

Fitzgerald started the novel around 1925 during an extended period in Cap D'Antibes, and often stayed at Picolette and the Hotel Belles Rives, he finished it in 1933 after returning to the US from years of expatriate excess. (ANI)
