Fans worried over perpetually sozzled Gazza's drunken-death wish

London, Feb 2(ANI): Shocked fans witnessed feeble former England international Paul Gascoigne shake and cry his way during a charity appearance and one of them claimed that the scenes were like watching the football legend die in front of their eyes.

Gascoigne trembled uncontrollably and unleashed a gush of abusive harangues during Thursday's bash in Northampton after downing pints of lager, the Sun reports.

One guest said it was horrible seeing Gascoigne like that and some fans revealed how trembling Gazza's shambolic performance had the atmosphere of a funeral.

Another gloomy fan said the whole scenes were tragic, adding the general consensus was certainly that he does not have long left.

Gascoigne made a incoherent ten-minute appearance at the hotel bash, where 500 dinner guests had paid 100 pounds a seat to see him, the paper said.

The former England ace was seen downing pints of lager before the compere announced that the star, who has battled booze and drugs since ending his glittering playing career, had been taken ill and needed hospital attention.

Guests were then told he would still appear but were urged to be patient with Gazza, and he was eventually helped on stage by two security guards from the Northampton hotel for a question and answer session with his agent Terry Baker.

But the audience watched aghast as he shook hysterically and fluffed a string of scripted lines before bursting into tears, and he apologised to the guests, saying that he has been drinking whiskey from the last three days.

Last night a further 15 public speaking bookings for the former Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspurs and Lazio hero were cancelled, the paper concluded. (ANI)
