Washington, Sat, 02 Feb 2013 ANI

Washington, Feb 2 (ANI): According to a recent poll, Alabama has been voted the most conservative state in the United States in 2012, with half of its residents identifying themselves as conservatives.

Alabama, with 50.6 percent 'conservative' residents, came first on the list, narrowly beating North Dakota and Wyoming, each with 48.6 percent of their residents identifying themselves as conservatives, according to a Gallup poll, Politico reports.

On the other hand, 40.8 percent of residents of Washington D.C, 30.5 percent of residents of Massachusetts and 29.3 percent of residents in Oregon, identified themselves as liberal.

According to Gallup, Americans are more likely to identify as conservatives than as liberals, although that gap has tightened a bit. (ANI)
