'England may have found Collingwood's replacement in Joe Root'

London , Fri, 18 Jan 2013 ANI

London, Jan. 18 (ANI): England may have finally found Paul Collingwood's successor in latest star, Joe Root, ending a search that has taken nearly two years to complete.

Selectors have failed to fill the ex-England all-rounder's shoes since he exited the international scene in early 2011 - just nine months after winning the ICC T20 World Cup as captain, reports Express.co.uk.

Sheffield-born batsman Root, who has been a standout performer this series in India, has shown how he is acutely aware of the match situation around him - a trait that Collingwood possessed throughout his nine-year England career, the report said.

The self-effacing nature of Root demonstrates what a find England have unearthed which could prove the perfect foil for the rest of the dressing room's more dominant characters.

Root will, undoubtedly, score more eye-catching innings - especially if picked for the Test series against a weak New Zealand side in March - but the way he quickly adapted to the strange environment delighted England, the report added.

In Root there is a real substance and resilience as well as precocious talent. It is the required genetics for all successful international cricketers, the report said. (ANI)
