Ecuador striker to stay at Vasco da Gama

Colombia,Sports, Sun, 13 Jan 2013 IANS

Rio de Janeiro, Jan 13 (IANS) Ecuador international striker Carlos Tenorio has agreed to remain at financially stricken Brazilian football club Vasco da Gama.

The 33-year-old is yet to train with the Rio de Janeiro side this year in protest at not being paid since November, reports Xinhua.

But Tenorio Saturday committed his future to Vasco after receiving assurances from the club's executive director Rene Simoes that future wages will be paid on time.

"He (Tenorio) will be staying at Vasco and as far as our debts are concerned, he will receive all outstanding payments along with the rest of the playing group," Simoes said.

Vasco has lost star midfielders Juninho and Nilton as well as goalkeeper Fernando Prass in the past month. All three have blamed delays in player payments as major reasons for their decision to leave.

Tenorio has made 51 appearances for Ecuador since making his international debut in 2001.
