Baby birth bigger priority for Watson than India tour

Sydney, Jan 10(ANI): All rounder Shane Watson is most likely to miss one of the four Test matches during Australia's tour to India as he and his wife, Lee Furlong are expecting the birth of his first child in March.

This situation has created another selection conundrum for the Australian selectors who are already scratching their heads over life after retired Michael Hussey, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

The vice-captain, a likely inclusion if fit to tour the subcontinent, may sit out the third or fourth Test, though he could play both games if his wife gives birth between matches.

Watson had moved from first drop to No. 4 in his two Tests against Sri Lanka as it was felt the position would better accommodate his bowling.

Now, the talented all-rounder is taking an indefinite break from bowling the team management is considering restoring Watson as an opener, where he averages nearly 44 from 24 matches as opposed to Ed Cowan's 33 from 13 games.

Such a move would break up Cowan's partnership with David Warner, which was last year's most prolific opening pair in world cricket, and possibly endanger the adopted Tasmanian's position in the XI. (ANI)
