Islamabad, Jan 1 (IANS) At least one person was killed and 13 others were injured Tuesday in a powerful blast near the venue of a political rally in Pakistan's port city Karachi, media reports said.

The bomb was planted on a motorcycle parked near buses meant for picking up and dropping activists who attended a rally of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, police official Asif Aijaz Shaikh told Geo News.

The blast took place near a furniture market in Federal B area, Dawn News reported.

ARY News said at least 35 people were injured while Geo News said the number of wounded was around 30. The blast smashed windows of the buses.

A witness said the explosion occurred when they were about to board their buses after attending the rally.

Hospital sources said four among the injured were in critical condition.

Police and Sindh Rangers cordoned off the area and began collecting evidence.

Tuesday's bombing took place just days after a powerful blast inside a bus near Karachi's Cantonment Railway Station killed at least six people and injured 50 others.
