Wade relishing 'special moment' of playing cricket in front of home crowd in Hobart
Sydney, Dec 10(ANI): Australia wicket keeper Mathew Wade has said he is excited to play in front of his home crowd in Hobart in the first Test match against Sri Lanka, and added it would be a special moment for him to play in the company of his friends and family in the crowd.
Even before his first cricket memories of Bellerive Oval (now Blundstone Arena), Wade can picture his father, Scott, playing for Clarence in the Hobart Australian rules competition.
"I used to wear a Clarence Football Club jersey and would run around in the dressing-room annoying everyone," News.com.au quoted Wade, as saying.
"It is a special moment for me - my first Test where I was born and where I am from. To have my friends and family and loved ones in the crowd will be great," he added.
Wade is a former apprentice plumber who lived for sport so much he concedes he may never have bothered the judges at the tradesman-of-the-year awards.
Wade was not satisfied with his work with the gloves or bat in the series against South Africa, but the memory of some missed chances in Adelaide was to an extent left behind by a strong finish in Perth.
"I was too inconsistent for my liking with the bat and gloves. I was pretty nervous in the first Test," Wade said.
"I had a good chat with Adam Gilchrist in Perth about everything that goes with keeping in a Test for Australia and the importance of trying to relax before it. I went out there and did my stuff and was happy with the way I finished," he added. (ANI)
