'Returning' Finn ready for Kolkata challenge

London, Tue, 04 Dec 2012 ANI

London, Dec 4(ANI): England fast bowler Steve Finn, who is likely to replace out of form Stuart Broad in the third Test match against India in Kolkata, has said he is ready for the challenge posed by the slow Indian pitches, and added he has always enjoyed bowling on the Eden Garden track.

The tall fast bowler, who ruled himself fit on Monday, had a major role planned for him until he got injured in the opening warm-up game, missing all subsequent cricket until regaining his form in a Performance Programme match last week in Navi Mumbai.

Finn may not offer an immediate solution but his extra pace at least allows England to resort to something new in their search for wickets.

Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar excelled in Mumbai Test but it will not always be like that and England need another source of wickets, something that has been in woefully short supply outside the spin department with only James Anderson so far in credit having taken two.

A year ago, Finn enjoyed success here in the one-day series and was the pick of England's bowlers.

"I enjoy bowling here. The subcontinent poses a different challenge to fast bowlers, it challenges other skills that you need to use, namely reverse swing," the Telegraph quoted Finn, as saying.

"I think that fast bowlers are under-rated in these conditions. We saw the Indian quicks doing well in the first Test and picking up wickets at important times. Again, hopefully the seamers can be used in similar fashion in this game," he added.

The Test series is well poised at 1-1 right now with both the teams gunning to take the lead in Kolkata, which starts on Wednesday. (ANI)
