Ex-US envoy to Pak batting for 'fair' use of drones

Washington, Wed, 21 Nov 2012 ANI

Washington, Nov. 21 (ANI): Former US ambassador to Pakistan, Cameron Munter, has stressed on the US for rational use of its unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for striking its enemies on other countries soil.

"I and Pentagon were not on the same page with regard to drone attacks," The News quoted Munter, as saying.

Reminiscing his days in Pakistan as envoy, he said some quarters, after he was recalled back to the US, "conspiracy-theorized" that he were somewhat upset over the drone attacks, which was not true.

"I firmly believe in the effectiveness of drones as a weapon of war, so dubbing me as someone who was against the use of pilotless spy plane attacks was nothing but an overambitious assumption," Munter said.

Munter also added that "use" of anything was one thing and "abuse" another, the former was fair but the latter was not.

"It's like killing the golden-egg laying goose. I am afraid that's exactly what could happen to drones, if the US administration continues to be use them irrationally," he further said. (ANI)
