Sydney, Nov 21(ANI): Australia off spinner Nathan Lyon has revealed he has learnt a new kind of unorthodox delivery from South Africa spinner Johan Botha, which he used to trap Jacques Rudolph leg before wicket in the Brisbane Test.
The ball even showed a hint of spin from leg to off that is the opposite way off-spinner Lyon normally turns the ball.
With continued refinement it could become a precious gem for Lyon because it will enhance the work of everything else he bowls.
Just letting batsmen know he has got it is a victory in itself because they will never rest as easily again entering Thursday's second Test in Adelaide.
The irony is that he learnt it off a South African, Botha, who taught it to Lyon in the Big Bash last year and is now serving a stint as South Australian captain.
"I have been working on a certain ball for quite a while. The game was really starting to slow down a bit before I bowled that ball. I spoke to Ricky (Ponting) about it and he said I may as well give it a crack and it came out ok,' News.com.au quoted Lyon, as saying.
"It is a different variation I learnt. Johan Botha taught me last year when he was at the Big Bash. I worked on it all since then and in the pre-season so I thought it was a good chance to see if I had it," he added.
"It will take a long time to perfect, it is good to have something else I suppose other than my stock ball. I have to keep working hard on that ball and concentrate on my on my stock ball as well," he said. (ANI)
