'Terror chief' Hafeez Saeed's JuD using Twitter to appear 'media savvy, polite and responsive'

Islamabad, Sat, 17 Nov 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Nov. 17 (ANI): Banned Pakistani terror group Jamaat Ud Dawa, is trying to use micro-blogging site Twitter, to appear 'legitimate, media savvy, and responsive' as it posts tweets through its account @JuD_Official.

While Hafiz Saeed, JuD founder, may have vehemently rubbished Western allegations that his group has military ambitions beyond its avowed stance on Kashmir, some of its actions, such as the Mumbai terror attacks, have raised many an eyebrow, and were viewed as an attempt to ignite an India-Pakistan conflagration.

Therefore, it is hardly surprising that the group is conscious of its image and keen to be viewed in terms other than a lethal militant force, which has worked in close coordination with the army and intelligence services, the Dawn reports.

According to the report, while at public meetings Hafiz Saeed and other leaders of his organisation unmistakably breathe fire, it is social media where JuD's sophistication becomes apparent.

In their conversations and tweets with other Tweets on the social site, JuD is careful of talking and mentioning things in the most articulate way and can been seen striving to appear non-hardliners or extreme on issues.

It seems that these groups have realised the need to win friends more than the arrogant security set-up, as it is easier to pass on any message that way to the public. (ANI)
