Musharraf and Aslam Beg wash dirty linen in public

Lahore, Nov. 12 (ANI): Pervez Musharraf and Mirza Aslam Beg found themselves washing dirty linen in public about each other's heydays in General Headquarters (GHQ).

Gen (r) Aslam Beg, a convict in the famous Asghar Khan case, is reported to have accused Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf of the creation of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) before 2002 general election in line with the creation of Islami Jamhoori Ittehad (IJI) before 1988 general elections, reports the Daily Times.

Apparently the accusation by Beg was his bid to substantiate the point that the creation of IJI was a routine exercise by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and his successor Musharraf by creating the MMA before the 2002 general elections followed it.

Musharraf rubbished this claim by his senior Beg. In fact, the beating about the bush by Beg before and after the Supreme Court verdict in Asghar Khan case has brought more damage to the institution than the very judgment, which holds individuals and not the institutions responsible for the act of subversion of the constitution, the paper said.

His warning that the armed forces would not remained silent over the way the seniors of the institutions were being treated in courts and in other public domains and that if not Gen Kayani someone else would wind up the present democratic system, in fact, invites another sedition case against him.

The Asghar Khan case comes to a logical conclusion only through an affidavit by Gen (r) Asad Durrani, the former DG ISI who accepted the guilt of distribution of money to politicians close to GHQ from the accounts of the ISI.

The man who had openly been accepting the responsibility for the creation of IJI was again none other but a retired military general and head of ISI - Gen Hamid Gul. The only role the civilian authorities had played in the case was the arbitration/adjudication of the case by a Supreme Court restored by an otherwise hesitant civilian administration on a telephone call from present Gen Kayani.
