'Starc likely to replace Hilfenhaus for Adelaide Test to lend bite to Oz attack'
Sydney, Nov 12(ANI): Mitchell Starc is tipped to make a return in the Australian Test team in the second Test match against South Africa at Adelaide following a disappointing bowling performance in the Gabba Test, and Ben Hilfenhaus is likely to make way for the young left arm fast bowler.
Australia desperately needs a spark after it made little early impression against South Africa's imposing batting line-up during the first Test at the Gabba, News.com.au reports.
Claiming 7-195 on the third day of the Gabba Test was a reasonable return, but the damage had been done on the first day when South Africa went to stumps an imperious 2-255, allowing the tourists to bat for more than five sessions despite the injured JP Duminy being unavailable, the paper added.
Starc's lively left armers are delivered from a great height and with the ability to swing the ball sharply back into the right-handers would add welcome variety, and as the pick of a modest bunch, James Pattinson was rewarded with two wickets in two overs after lunch to finish with 3-93, it said.
With Peter Siddle (2-111) improving his consistency following a disappointing first day, Hilfenhaus is the clear favourite to carry the drinks during the second Test in Adelaide, it added.
The paper further reported that Hilfenhaus, who has been Australia's best bowler since his recall against India last Boxing Day, with 37 wickets at 18, looked decidedly pedestrian against the South Africans.
While Siddle has looked more dangerous than Hilfenhaus in this match, Hilfenhaus has a poor record in Adelaide, as in three Tests, he has taken just seven wickets at an average of 48, his worst return at any Australian venue, it said. (ANI)
