London, Nov. 11 (ANI): Boxing star Frank Bruno says late British TV presenter Jimmy Savile tricked him into shaking hands with 'Yorkshire Ripper' Peter Sutcliffe at Broadmoor in 1991.

The ex-heavyweight champ recalled his shock at discovering that he had met Sutcliffe as he battled to come to terms with his old friend and mentor Savile being exposed as a serial paedophile.

Frank, 50, is now haunted by a photograph taken of him shaking hands with the monster who is known to have murdered 13 women.

It happened when he visited Broadmoor secure psychiatric hospital, Berks, to open a gym in 1991, and Savile, a predatory pervert who abused youngsters for decades, was also present there, The Sun reports.

According to the paper, Frank spoke as pressure grew for police to probe sinister links between twisted BBC star Savile and the Ripper.

"Sutcliffe said, 'Hello, Frank' and we spoke briefly. Afterwards Savile asked, 'Do you know who you met?' I said, 'What!' I was shocked. I was in Broadmoor to open a gym, not to meet a man who killed 13 women," Frank said.

"Savile planned it. It was not a nice thing to do to me. If I had known it was the Ripper, I'd have tried to get out of it. It was a scary feeling. I'd rather shake Mike Tyson's hand," he added.

In an emotional interview, Frank admitted being floored by the revelations about the man he regarded as a friend and regularly rang for advice.

"It isn't nice to discover all this about a person you knew - or thought you knew. I am shocked 100 per cent. It's like a bad dream. Savile touched underage girls. He is the last man I thought would ever have done these things. He was one of my favourite people," he said.

"I knew nothing about it. It baffles me. It does not ring any bells. He never went into detail about girls but I don't think he was short of them. I just feel sad now - sad to think he might have stooped that low," he added. (ANI)
