London, Nov.5 (ANI): Ifzaal Suleria, Zonal President of Kashmir National Party was arrested today in Muzaffarabad by the local police. KNP President went to meet some friends in District Court area, known as Kacheri; where he was arrested on spot by local police who were looking for him. The police had arrest warrants for him in a very old case, which was related to Basha Dam demonstration.
KNP Zonal President arranged a protest against Pakistani plans to build a dam in Gilgit to exploit local natural resources in 2005. Pakistani authorities get irritated when nationalist Kashmiris talk about situation in areas of Gilgit Baltistan, and how Islamabad rule this region of State of Jammu and Kashmir with an iron fist.
The local police arrested Ifzaal Suleria and some others in 2005 for holding a demonstration against Pakistani designs in Gilgit Baltistan. Whereas, cases of others have ended, case of Ifzaal Suleria is still there; and local police use this as a weapon to harass and intimidate KNP leader.
In line with the KNP policy, Ifzaal Suleria arranged a Black Day rally and a public meeting in Muzaffarabad on 22 October to protest against brutalities committed by the tribesmen which were sent by Pakistan to capture Kashmir on 22 October 1947. This tribal invasion resulted in death of tens of thousands of innocent people and forced division of the State of Jammu and Kashmir. It is believed that the present arrest is directly related to the KNP activities to oppose Pakistani imperialism in Kashmir; and especially their exploitation of our sentiments and our natural resources.
After many hours of detention, Ifzaal Suleria was released on bail. While talking to Dr Shabir Choudhry, Ifzaal Suleria said, "Our struggle against foreign occupation will continue, and we will not be intimidated by these undemocratic and inhuman measures". KNP leader said, "Our struggle against injustice and to promote fundamental human rights will continue; and we will continue to fight against Pakistani domination and occupation."
KNP leaders Abbas Butt, Asim Mirza, Nawaz Majid, Zubair Ansari, Aslam Uddin, Basharat Khan, Sarwar Hussain and Dr Shabir Choudhry have strongly condemned this act of police and demanded that Kashmiri nationalists must not be intimidated, as they are only promoting their cause peacefully. (ANI)
