Wellington, Oct 19(ANI): Former fast bowler Shane Bond has been confirmed as replacement for outgoing Australian Damien Wright as New Zealand's new bowling coach, and his first assignment will be to travel with the team on their upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, which starts later this month.
"Shane's international record speaks for itself and in recent years he has developed into a highly skilled coach and mentor," Stuff.co.nz quoted New Zealand Cricket director of cricket, John Buchanan, as saying.
"His knowledge of the modern game will be a valuable asset to the team and he has the skill-set to complement (coach) Mike Hesson and (assistant coach) Bob Carter," he added.
Bond, who has worked with Central Districts and the New Zealand women's team as a bowing coach, said it was an honour to be working with the national men's team and he is excited by what lies ahead.
"This is a role I have worked towards since I stopped playing. I've enjoyed a range of coaching experiences around both men's and women's teams alongside some very good coaches and feel I'm ready to add something to the team," Bond said.
"The experience of playing for New Zealand exceeded my expectations and I'm sure it will be no different as a coach," he added. (ANI)
