Cyber crime rises in Austria

Vienna, Oct 17 (IANS) Cyber crime in Austria has risen sharply, said authorities.

The cases totalled 7,729 in the first three quarters this year, compared to 3,114 in the same period of 2011, reported Xinhua.

There was a particularly sharp rise in internet fraud, with 3,530 cases reported, up by 150 percent year on year.

Violent crimes, including homicide, injury and sex offences, increased by 5.5 percent year on year to 32,864, the Federal Criminal Police Office said Tuesday.

Vehicle thefts decreased by 16 percent compared to 2011, while the number of burglaries remained unchanged.
