London, Oct. 14 (ANI): Head of International Cycling Union (UCI), Pat McQuaid has said he is "shocked and angry" at the evidence contained in the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) report, detailing the alleged doping history of Lance Armstrong and his team-mates at the US Postal and Discovery Teams.
McQuaid had demanded the USADA to produce the evidence it had against Armstrong in the doping scandal, before his organisation endorses it and strips the Tour de France winner of his seven titles.
Although the UCI are officially making no comment until its chief lawyer has examined the 1,000-page document that has been published recently, McQuaid broke ranks briefly at the Tour of Beijing in China by admitting he felt "angry and shocked. That's as much as I can say," The Telegraph reported.
According to the paper, McQuaid's reaction suggests that the UCI's endorsement of the report's major findings will come much quicker than the 21-day deadline as the shockwaves from the depth of evidence against Armstrong, and the apparent systematic doping by the core riders at US Postal and Discovery continue to be felt.
Meanwhile, in Australia, Sporting Director of the Orica-GreenEdge team and co-ordinator of the country's road cycling programme, Matt White stepped down from his post after admitting his part in the widespread doping at Armstrong's US Postal team during his time as a rider between 2001 and 2003, the paper said.
White, who never rode on the Tour de France with Armstrong, was implicated as the unnamed "rider 9" in Floyd Landis's affidavit in the USADA report and came clean yesterday, it added. (ANI)
