London, Oct 9 (ANI): Turkish President Abdullah Gul has called its growing conflict with Syria as 'the worst-case scenario we have all been dreading', and called on the international community to do more to try to end the 19-month-old crisis.
Speaking to reporters in Ankara, Gul said that along with the suffering of the Syrian people, 'once in a while we're also affected.'
According to the Daily Mail, he also said the situation in Syria must not be allowed to continue.
"Sooner rather than later there will be change, a transition," the paper quoted him, as saying.
"Our only hope is that this happens before more blood is shed, and before Syria self-destructs more than it already has. It's also crucial that the international community act in a more effective way," he added.
Gul's remarks came as the Turkish military retaliated with artillery fire into Syria for a sixth successive day. (ANI)
