Broad says 'good start' critical for England success in T20 WC

Colombo , Sat, 29 Sep 2012 ANI

Colombo, Sep 29(ANI): England captain Stuart Broad has urged openers Craig Kieswetter and Alex Hales to give them a good start against New Zealand in their second match of the Super Eight stage in the ongoing Twenty20 World Cup at Pallekele on Saturday.

The top three of Kieswetter, Hales and Luke Wright have each made more than 30 at some stage of the tournament, but one of the openers has got out in the first over of each game, a lapse which Broad believes is irresponsible.

"We have to stop losing early wickets. Our No.3 has come in during the first over of every match, which is not good enough and can really hurt you," the Telegraph quoted Broad, as saying.

"The other night, Chris Gayle, the best striker in the world, showed he never goes from ball one. He has a look, assesses the pitch then explodes," he added.

"We haven't got that quite right yet but it is important we do against New Zealand. We need to be a bit more responsible and protect our wickets especially in that first over. It's not like we've been got out by good bowling - just that some of the batters' decisions have been pretty poor," he said.

England lost their first match against West Indies on Thursday and must win the next two matches against the Kiwis and Sri Lanka to proceed to the semifinals of the World Cup. (ANI)
