Damascus, Sept 20 (ANI): Syrian President Bashar-al Assad has reportedly told Iran's visiting Foreign Minister that the fight against his government 'targets resistance as a whole, not only Syria.'
"The ongoing battle is targeting the whole of the resistance axis, not just Syria," the state-run media quoted Assad, as telling Iran's visiting Ali Akbar Salehi.
According to News24, Assad's regime, Iran and the powerful Lebanese Shi' ite movement Hezbollah refer to themselves as a 'resistance axis' in their common opposition to Israel.
Assad stressed that said that his regime 'has shown openness in dealing with all initiatives put forward to find a solution to the ongoing crisis in the country.'
"The key to any initiative's success is the sincerity of the intentions behind it,' he added.
According to the report, earlier on Wednesday, Salehi said the solution to the conflict 'lies only with Syria and within the Syrian family, in partnership with international and regional organisations'. (ANI)
