Pyongyang, Sept. 10 (ANI): North Korea celebrated its National Day with a dramatic show featuring a staggering 100,000 performers which coincided with the country's famous Arirang mass games.
The show was organized to celebrate September 9, which is said to be the most important national holiday in North Korea, celebrating the founding of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in 1948.
The show was organized on the country's 64th anniversary.
According to the Daily Mail, the performance known as Arirang, is named after a popular folk song in Korea, which took place inside a-150,000-capacity May Day stadium.
Each performer was chosen in a rigorous selection process, which lasted for three to four months with only the best gymnasts being selected for the final show.
Thousands of replacements were also put on standby in case any of the performers failed to meet the exact standards required.
Meanwhile, former North Korean defectors released balloons carrying leaflets condemning North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and his government's policies during a rally held at the Imjingak Pavilion, north of Seoul, South Korea, according to the paper.
The South Korean activists also released the balloons carrying thousands of leaflets and DVDS across their shared border to coincide with the National Day.
"Rise up, our 20 million compatriots! Don't be fooled by the deception of Kim Jong Un!', one leaflet said referring to the North's young new leader, who took over from his father Kim Jong Il after his death last December. (ANI)
