Peshawar, Aug. 29 (ANI): A member of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) has moved a resolution against drone strikes on Pakistan's tribal areas.
The resolution moved by MPA Mufti Kifayatullah demanded that the federal government take "effective measures" to stop these strikes which are not only violating sovereignty of the country, but also killing "innocent tribesmen", reports the Daily Times.
The government, it said, should take "serious note of drone attacks because a number of innocent people have fallen victim to them and such strikes are causing unrest among people".
The U.S. has been pushing Pakistan for years to carry out a military offensive in the tribal areas against the Haqqani Network, who have launched some of the most deadly attacks on the U.S.-led foreign forces in Afghanistan.
Despite Islamabad's repeated protests, the Obama administration is not willing to halt the CIA drone campaign in the tribal areas.
According to a report by the American Security Project, a U.S. think-tank, since 2004 the U.S. had launched a total of 336 drone strikes in Pakistan, killing between 2,532 and 3,251 people. (ANI)
