Amman, Aug. 23 (ANI): The King of Jordan has intervened in a case involving three members of his country's Paralympic team accused of sex offences during pre-Games training in Northern Ireland.
King Abdullah's administration has promised to bring the trio to court if they were granted bail, the court hearing the case in Northern Ireland was told.
The court has granted the accused men bail with sureties of 5,500 pounds each, enabling them to travel to London to compete in the Games.
"His majesty the King of Jordan was inquiring about the matter and was asking about all the details," Rulan Samara, from the Jordanian Embassy, told the court in Coleraine.
According to the Daily Mail, she promised that the accused would be brought back for court appearances in Northern Ireland by her government in future, offering the surety as guarantee.
According to the report, the three men, two wheelchair power lifters, including a bronze medallist from the Beijing Games, and a trainer, have been accused of sexual assault and voyeurism against women and young girls during a training camp in Northern Ireland.
Team member Omar Sami Qaradhi, 31, has been charged with three sexual assault, two against a child, and one of voyeurism after he allegedly entered a women's changing room, the report said.
According to the report, trainer Faisal Hammash, 35, is accused of inciting two girls to engage in sexual activity.
Motaz Al Junaidi, 45, who won bronze at the Paralympics in Beijing, is also accused of sexual assault, the report added. (ANI)
