Rooney 'happy' to share Man U's goal-scoring burden with Van Persie

London, Aug 20(ANI): Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, who completed ten years in the Premier League on Sunday, has expressed hope he would form a good partnership quickly with new signing Robin Van Persie, and claimed he won't have any problem in sharing the goal-scoring burden with the Dutch forward.

Rooney scored a personal-best 27 Premier League goals last season, but his new striker partner Van Persie hit three more.

The former Everton striker has said he will be only too happy to share the goals around after shouldering the main burden of scoring for United since Cristiano Ronaldo left in 2009.

"The two of us were fighting for that Golden Boot last season and now the two of us are hopefully playing together," The Daily Express quoted Rooney, as saying.

"Obviously, we'll have to work over the next few weeks and try to develop an understanding. Hopefully, it will come quickly and we will form a good partnership," he added.

"It's great for the players and the fans to sign a player of Robin's quality. I haven't thought about how my role will change. But no matter what role the manager wants me or Robin to play, we will have to do that," he said.

Rooney further said: "I know over the last two or three years I've been the one scoring the goals. But you can't do that without the players to give you assists."

Van Persie and Rooney's partnership is likely to make its debut in United's season opener against Everton at Goodison Park on Monday. (ANI)
