'India destroying Pak's agriculture by building dams on its rivers'

Islamabad , Tue, 14 Aug 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Aug 14 (ANI): The chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, has accused India of destroying Pakistan's agriculture by building dams on rivers flowing into Pakistan.

Rehman said the construction of dams on the Chenab, Ravi and Indus rivers by India, would hold back the establishment of peace in the subcontinent, reports The Nation.

He alleged that India has violated the Indus Basin Treaty of 1960, which does not allow India to stop the inflow of water to the three Pakistani rivers.

Going against the treaty, India has also been constructing dams on the stream originating from the Chenab, he added.

He criticized Indian leaders saying that on one hand they pretend to be 'friends' with Pakistan 'to please the world', and on the other hand, it does not let go of any opportunity to harm Pakistan. (ANI)
