London, July 26 (ANI): Ace midfielder David Beckham's hopes of playing in the 2012 Olympics ended last night, even as fans criticized Team Great Britain coach Stuart Pearce.
Pearce left England legend Beckham out of his squad, but still had until 8 p.m. last night to give him a place as a reserve.
He, however, chose not to despite the key role Beckham played in helping London win the right tohost the Games.
The Sun reported that Sir Paul McCartney, who sings at tomorrow's opening ceremony, had also slammed football chiefs over Beckham's omission.
Fan Adam Tanous tweeted: I'll never forgive Pearce."
Dave Dempsey wrote: "Pearce is an idiot. Beckham is still class."
A source said Beckham felt he now had to accept the decision and move on.
He will take part in the opening ceremony, the paper reports. (ANI)
