London, July 19 (ANI): Following G4S's failure to provide security for the London 2012 Olympics, it has emerged that the firm has been issuing guard uniforms to some of its failed recruits, thus raising the risk of a security goof-up.
A student, who is a refugee from East Africa and has been in Britain for three years, had failed G4S's vetting procedure and expressed shocked after being told she was a 'security risk'.She said she was invited by G4S a week before to pick up her official lime green uniform.
"They said they were delighted to invite me to pick up my uniform from the distribution centre in Stratford. I couldn't believe it when I received the email. I am not a security risk, but it is a very dangerous mistake to make," the Daily Express quoted the student, as saying.
"They don't seem to know what they are doing. There could be many, many people who are a genuine terror threat who have now been issued official uniforms. It does not make you feel safe," she added.
The student reportedly had spent time in Libya and Sudan before coming to Britain and was unable to provide a five-year employment history.
Sources claimed that others who failed security vetting have been rostered for shifts by G4S.
The alarming revelations come after it emerged last week that G4S was woefully short of its 10,400 target of guards for the Games.
About 3,500 soldiers, marines, airmen and police have now been called up to plug the gap and plans are being prepared to draft in up to 2,000 more if needed. (ANI)
