Athens, July 17 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Over 500,000 euros (about $614,000) have been stolen from a bank on the small Greek island of Spetses, local Skai television channel reported.
The incident occurred Monday after three men and a woman entered a local branch of Alpha Bank. They threatened everyone in the bank with guns and took away all cash, which had just been brought to the bank, on motorbikes.
It was an unprecedented bank robbery for the island of Spetses, known for its historical and architectural hermitage. Automobile transportation is not allowed on the island due to its small territory.
Policemen and coast guards were still looking for the robbers Tuesday.
