London, June 21(ANI): It has been revealed that a 2.65 pounds worth a hair gel used by striker Wayne Rooney has turned out to be the lucky charm for England's success in the Euro Cup.
It has been identified that Rooney had applied Wella Shockwaves Ultra Strong Rock and Hold Gel Styler before the Ukraine match during which he scored the winning goal through his head.
The England fans saw him celebrate by jokingly shaking his index finger over his 30,000 pound transplanted barnet to mimic spraying gel on his head.
Afterwards he revealed he'd agreed to do the cheeky celebration after borrowing the hair product from pony-tailed striker Andy Carroll.
According to a source, Carroll, had in turn, loaned it from Liverpool teammate Jordan Henderson before Premier League games last season.
Midfielder Henderson had picked it up for 2.65 pounds at his nearest supermarket in Liverpool.
"England are gelling nicely just at the right time and the boys swear by this stuff. They're convinced it's their lucky charm. England have been shorn of success for so many years - but Wayne and Andy are convinced this could be the year," The Sun quoted a Three Lions source, as saying.
"Bobby Charlton didn't need it in '66, of course - but then he never got the chance of a hair transplant. Lets just hope that this time we can go all the spray," he added.
Manchester United star Rooney hadn't scored for England in a tournament since Euro 2004 until the gel worked its magic and he leapt to nod home a Steven Gerrard cross to see off Ukraine's challenge in Donetsk.
Rooney joked after the Ukraine match: "I used a bit of Andy Carroll's product. Hopefully I'll end up with hair like him." (ANI)
