China saw more marriages and divorces in 2011

Beijing, June 21 (IANS) China recorded more weddings and more cases of divorce in 2011 compared to the previous year, the ministry of civil affairs said Thursday.

Civil affairs authorities nationwide registered 13.02 million marriages, a rise of 4.9 percent on a year-on-year basis.

Last year also marked more than 2.87 million divorces through court rulings or civil affairs administrative procedures -- up 7.3 percent year-on-year, Xinhua reported.

The number of divorces per 1,000 people was 2.13 in 2011 -- 0.13 points higher than the previous year, the ministry said.

Over 36 percent of the people who registered for marriage in 2011 were between 20 and 24 years of age.
