Euro 2012: Irish fans fill stadiums in Poland

Poland, June 12 (IANS) Irish fans are all over Euro 2012 stadiums in Poland, notwithstanding their 3-1 defeat to Croatia in the opener.

According to data from PL.2012, the organising body of the tournament in Poland, 162,000 fans attended the four matches at Polish stadiums since Friday.

Half of those were foreigners, with the Irish making the most at 10 percent. Russian fans are second (8.5 percent), while the Czechs, Spaniards, Croats and Italians provided about five percent each.

The fan-zones in five Polish cities have welcomed 740,000 supporters from Friday to Sunday.

Warsaw has hosted the largest numbers (346,000), followed by Wroclaw (144,000), Poznan (124,000), Gdansk (93,000), and Krakow (35,000). Krakow is not hosting matches, but the English, Dutch and Italian squads have made their base in the city.
