London, June 7(ANI): Former England captain Alan Shearer doesn't believe the Three Lions can win the Euro Cup this year, and added that it would enter the tournament with the lowest expectation level ever.

The England squad has been plagued by injuries just before the Euros, and even England's most loyal fans don't give much for their chances this time around, including former striker Shearer.

"I can't see us winning it. I think it's the first time I can remember when we've gone into a tournament without huge expectations," Sports24 quoted Shearer, as saying. We didn't even have a manager or a coach a month ago and we've had a lot of injuries," he added.

When asked what was the best the team could hope for, Shearer replied: "I think maybe a semi final position for England."

Shearer also disagreed with manager Roy Hodgson's decision to leave Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand out of the first squad announced for the Euros, for the so-called 'footballing reasons'.

"Every manager has the right to pick who he wants and who he doesn't want. But in my opinion, I'd have had Rio in the very first squad," Shearer said.ngland begins their Euro 2012 Group D campaign against France in Donetsk on June 11. (ANI)
