Paris, June 5(ANI): Britain number one Andy Murray would have to resort to sublime stroke play in order to beat world number six David Ferrer, who is known as Senor Consistency, in the quarter final of the French Open.
The last time Murray faced Spaniard Ferrer in a Grand Slam, the world number four required all his resourcefulness to outsmart Ferrer, and this time also he would require the help of uplifting stroke play to beat him.
Murray's record against top-eight players on clay has been pathetic, and clay is also touted to be one of the strongest points of mostly all the Spaniards, and Ferrer is no exception.
Murray has lost all three clay matches he has played against Ferrer so far, and he believes the Spaniard has never got his due credit.
"I don't think he gets the credit he deserves. People think he's just a workhorse. He does work incredibly hard but he has many ways of hurting you. Over five-set matches he's very hard to break down," The Telegraph quoted Murray, as saying.
Murray beat Richard Gasquet in the pre-quarter final of the French Open with the help of sublime stroke play, and many feel he would require the same kind of play if he wants to reach his sixth successive Grand Slam semifinal.
Murray was outmaneuvered and out-thinking Gasquet, using his brain to come up with unpredictable angles and depths.
This, surely, is the way to take Ferrer on Wednesday, because in a straightforward slugging contest, the Spaniard has few peers. (ANI)
