Washington, June 5 (ANI): Obama campaign manager Jim Messina has said President Barack Obama is in a stronger position in head-to-head poll count with Republican candidate Mitt Romney, than he was four years ago, when he first contested presidential elections.
In a new video released by the Obama campaign, Messina tells supporters there is nothing to worry about.
"We knew this was going to be a tough race. And, we knew that once Mitt Romney locked up the nomination, Republicans would get behind him, and this race would be tight, just like we always knew it would be," the Los Angeles Times quoted Messina, as saying.
Just about a month ago, when the president held the first public rallies of his campaign, it faced a hasty rollout of the president's new position on gay marriage, saw its first major attack message on Bain Capital undermined by leading surrogates, and faced new signs of trouble on the economy.
Messina then offers a glimpse of the electoral map by the campaign in the video, saying by their math, Obama is ahead 243 to 191, with 104 electoral votes up for grabs.
He said that in toss-up states like Wisconsin, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia, the difference will be in its ground game.
"We're following the strategy we've had since day one, and we can't afford to lose focus on that. We can't pay attention to anything else, good or bad. We're going to run the most sophisticated grassroots campaign this country has ever seen, and to do that, we need to stay focused, work hard, and ignore the ups and downs," Messina said. (ANI)
