Chinese diplomat "competent" in UN job: FM spokesman
Beijing, June 1 (Xinhua-ANI): Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin said Friday that senior Chinese diplomat Wu Hongbo will act as a "competent" head of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday appointed Wu as UN undersecretary-general to lead the Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
"Ambassador Wu Hongbo is an excellent senior diplomat," Liu said at a daily press briefing, adding that Wu has worked as an assistant foreign minister and ambassador to Germany and has rich work experience.
Wu is a skilled organizer and is qualified to act as the head of the department, Liu said.
"We believe Ambassador Wu is just as qualified for the job as his predecessor," Liu added. (Xinhua-ANI)
