Former Olympic sprinter Johnson claims his 'conscience' is clean and clear

Sydney, May 31(ANI): Former Olympic sprinter Ben Johnson, who failed a drug test three days after beating his long-time rival Carl Lewis to win the 100 meter final in a world record time of 9.79 seconds, has said his conscience is still clean over the matter as he knows he was set up.

After 25 years, Johnson is unsure about his continuing notoriety, and claims that he is sick to death of a scandal that dogs him everywhere, but expresses fury he was made the fall guy in a race won by a man, Carl Lewis, who also tested positive.

"With my last, dying breath I would say, 'Yes, I was set up," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Johnson, as saying.

Johnson says he doesn't consume drugs, alcohol or cigarettes.

"I'm clean, I'm fit," Johnson said.

Only a year ago, he ran 100 meters in 10.7 seconds, and he believes he could still improve those timings with the help of little help.

Johnson said: "With a bit more training I could do the same any time soon."

He said he isn't thinking much about athletes indulging in drugs during London Olympics, as he knows his conscience is clear.

"Well, I ain't doing a lot of thinking about that. Like me, those guys have got to answer to their own consciences. I know I'm comfortable with mine," Johnson said. (ANI)
