China welcomes India, Myanmar talks

Beijing, May 28 (IANS) As a friendly neighbour of both India and Myanmar, China likes to see the two countries develop friendly relations, the foreign ministry here said Monday.

China hopes India-Myanmar ties will be conducive to peace, stability and prosperity of the two countries as well as the region, foreign ministry spokesman Liu Weimin said.

Liu's remarks to media came when he was asked to comment on Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Myanmar, Xinhua reported.

Embarking on a three-day visit to Myanmar Sunday, Manmohan Singh said New Delhi attaches highest importance to Myanmar since it regards it a "close friend and neighbour".

Asked if Chinese leaders have plans to visit Myanmar in near future, Liu said China is willing to enhance bilateral exchanges with Nay Pyi Taw, including high-level visits.
