Gujarat, Maharashtra celebrate their formation day anniversaries

Ahmedabad/Mumbai, May 1 (ANI): Maharashtra and Gujarat hailed May Day as the day of their formation. On this day in 1960, the erstwhile state of Bombay was divided into the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Gujarat inaugurated a National Book Fair organised by Municipal Corporation of Ahmedabad.

"Back on May 1, 1960 Gujarat started its journey on the path of growth and development. On the occasion of the Foundation Day, Gujarat is entering into the 52nd year of its formation. Apart from various cultural programmes, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has organised the National Book Fair, for which I would like to congratulate them," said Modi.

He also revealed that the state government has planned a gala cultural programme to be presented by the tribal communities in Dahod region.

"The Foundation Day programme organised by the state government would be held in Dahod, the area of tribal community. Gujarat is looking forward to celebrate the Foundation Day with the cultural programmes by the tribal community," added Modi.

In Mumbai, Maharashtra Governor K.Sankaranarayanan attended a public function as the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, Sankaranarayanan highlighted problem of water scarcity in the state and the various schemes initiated by the state government to benefit farmers, besides the growth of the industrial sector.

The event saw the participation of a march past by police contingents and several tableaux.

The day also coincides with the birth anniversary of the legendary Maratha leader Chhatrapati Shivaji. (ANI)
