Taliban commander turns himself in demanding 100$ reward offered on his own 'Wanted' poster

Kabul, Wed, 18 Apr 2012 ANI

Kabul, Apr 18 (ANI): Mohammad Ashan, a mid-level Taliban commander in Paktika province, turned himself in to the police over a wanted poster bearing his own face, demanding the reward of 100 dollars, which was referenced on the poster for the finder.

Ashan is suspected of plotting at least two attacks on Afghan security forces, which prompted officials to release hundreds of "Be on the Lookout" posters bearing his name and photo.

When U.S. troops understood that Ashan had in fact come forward to claim the finder's fee, they were taken aback, and arrested him on the spot.

"We asked him, 'Is this you?' Mohammad Ashan answered with an incredible amount of enthusiasm, 'Yes, yes, that's me! Can I get my award now?" The Washington Post quoted SPC Mathew Baker as saying.

According to reports, a biometric scan was conducted which confirmed that the man in Afghan custody was the insurgent they were in search of. (ANI)
