Whitney Houston death certificate fails to confirm cause

Washington, Thu, 16 Feb 2012 ANI

Washington, Feb 16 (ANI): Whitney Houston's official death certificate has been released to the public, but the official cause of her tragic passing will remain a mystery for the time being.

The immediate cause of death is listed as "deferred" and the manner of death is noted to be "pending investigation."

According to the documents obtained, the singer will be laid to rest on Saturday at the Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey, the same cemetery where her father John Russell Houston, who died in 2003, was buried, TMZ.com reported.

Houston's funeral will be held at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey, where Houston honed in her powerful voice in the choir.

Amid the circumstances of her death and Houston's history of drug addiction, many have speculated that the singer died after taking a toxic mix of prescription drugs and alcohol.

"You can look at a body and not know [what] the cause of death is," ABC News quoted Ed Winter, a Los Angeles County coroner's spokesman as saying.

"You might have a suspicion, but the person could have suffered a heart attack or embolism," he said.

Houston's autopsy is complete, but results of toxicology tests are not expected to be in for six to eight weeks.

Investigators will be looking into doctors who wrote multiple sedative prescriptions for Houston as they try to determine the cause of the pop superstar's death.

Winter said that the office is "conducting an investigation and will try to obtain medical records from her doctors."

According to a publicist for Houston, the funeral is expected to be made available to the public via television and web streaming. (ANI)
